Nature and Nurture, Megatrend 2012-2013

Fall 2012 to Spring 2013 will return to the basics by utilizing organic materials in a sustainable way. Reflecting on our carbon footprint is a true inspiration for current designers. From ready to wear to interior design, organic chic is refined with soft, luxurious pieces. Natural resins will adorn hardware and woven materials will be crafted with a modern twist. We will see this megatrend celebrated by using rustic leathers, hand crafted yarns, and un-dyed imperfections. One of my personal favorites (as a girl from New England) is the addition of fish skins as an exotic alternative to luxury skins.

A new LA life.

I've been in LA for three months so far and it's been nothing short of amazing. The lifestyle is very different from the east coast but I'm beginning to settle in and I know that I made the best decision to move. It's hard to remove yourself from your friends and family and throw yourself into a completely new city.. I'm so blessed to have the support that I have, I know I could not have done it without everyone around me. So this is a shout out to my friends and fam.. Love love love all of you. Xo.

I want to be like TOM, I mean Blake.

In 2006, Blake Mycoskie took a trip to Argentina and realized that many of the local children were not wearing any shoes. From that moment, he knew he had to do something about it. The next step was to get people to donate, that's when the idea of TOMS shoes and 'one for one' was born. Every time a person buys a pair of TOMS, a pair is donated to protect the feet of a child in a third world country. Not only is this donation preventing diseases in children but shoes allow the kids to attend school since they are a part of their uniforms. It's cool to know that our Generation is making a difference and helping those less fortunate realize their potential because everyone should have that opportunity.

Go Blake.

RACHEL ROY.

Rachel Roy 2011 Spring Collection
Wow, how do I start to explain how cool Rachel Roy is?... First, she's sophisticated, classic, and inventive. Second, she employs women in Africa who make beaded bracelets and clutches, so that they can gain their own independence and freedom through creating beautiful pieces. Third, Rachel created and sells a "Kindess is always Fashionable" tote in order to raise money for flood survivors/victims in Pakistan (all proceeds going directly to UNICEF).  Lastly, Rachel Roy designs beautiful silhouettes and is currently one of the most inspiring American fashion designers.  Rachel debuted her collection in 2005 and has since grown to 4 full collections per year. The best part about her designs are that they are mostly day to evening and provide a fun color palette. Her clothes are becoming more accessible as her collections grow, which makes me and the rest of the world very happy.  At first, Rachel's clothes were only sold in specialty stores, but now RACHEL ROY is available at Saks Fifth Avenue, Bergdorf Goodman, Neiman Marcus, and Nordstom!  Go Rachel!

"In hindsight, my initial love for fashion was about hope and evolving to become the type of woman I wanted to be: strong, confident and feminine. I always loved the idea of dressing up--my wardrobe and how I present myself reflecting how I feel on the inside. That is what I do for other people now. I give women the means to express themselves and be who they are and who they aspire to be, and I think there is a real beauty in this."

...who doesn't love hypothetical fashion situations?

If I were to play princess for a day...

I would choose to wear Monique Lhullier's Stardust Embroidered 3/4 sleeve gown from her Ready to Wear, Spring 2011 collection.
Gown via Monique Lhullier website.
Monique Lhullier's inspiration for this collection came to her while dreaming of a beautiful girl running in the Garden of Eden.  The sparkling sequins on the gown represent the sun gleaming off of the dress (from Monique's dream) and when combined with the feminine, playful fabrics makes a simply divine creation.  Pair this dress with the Dior rose ring below and I'm in heaven.

What would you wear?
